About the symposium
Multimodality has always been part of our everyday life, and is an increasingly prominent topic in the contemporary mediatized world. Be it print media, television, films or social networking sites, meaning-making warrants our attention to more than one mode. For instance, in communication we constantly mobilize not only text, but also other modes such as emojis, images, animated images and videos. The goal of this event is to bring the importance of a multimodal paradigm for investigating the media to the forefront.
The day consists of academic talks, practitioners’ sharing, poster presentations and practical workshops. These varied formats allow participants to examine the topic from multiple perspectives. We hope to encourage dialogue between researchers across disciplines. It is an excellent opportunity for participants to share the challenges they face in their work or tips for approaching multimodality in the media.
